Parent-child relationships are declining day by day in Sri Lankan society. The Aloka Elders’ Home is the result of a thought that came to the minds of several contemporary university friends who were engaged in higher education at the University of Peradeniya. Accordingly, the Aloka Human Development Foundation was established with the objective of caring for only ten adults.

Aloka Elders’ Home was started eight years ago today, June 12, 2012, by five adults under the Aloka Human Development Foundation.

The Aloka Elders’ Home you see today at the Pinwatta Saddharmakara Pirivena premises in Panadura currently has 4 fully equipped hostels and a staff of about 20. Around 115 homeless, homeless adults with children live in this apartment complex for the rest of their lives.

I must mention that the Aloka Elders’ Home is unique compared to other nursing homes on the island. That is to say, a beautiful garden is maintained in the light grounds to create a physically and mentally healthy as well as a clean, non-toxic, nutritious balanced diet and a spiritual environment for the adults in the hostel.

There is also a monthly specialist clinic for adult health, monthly sermons, entertainment programs as well as day and night nursing services. The organization has received donations from donors in various parts of the country, but due to the current outbreak of the corona epidemic in the country, all material and financial donations to the organization have stopped.
